From the Kruger National Park in South Africa, Andy travelled on to the Mashatu Game Lodge in Botswana ...
Having driven for six hours we reached Point Drift and crossed the Limpopo River into Botswana and transferred to the game lodge.
Mashatu comprises the main camp, the tented camp and the Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris camp. The main camp is extremely comfortable and affords wounderful views of the waterhole from the bar area. It has a discovery room which lets you see and read about the wild life that can be found in the park. All the rooms are very well equipped and have views right on to the bush. It is utterly peaceful and allows for some amazing game drives. As at Mala Mala, you start with breakfast at about 07.00 hrs and then set off for the morning drive, with a stop for elevenses, getting back to camp in time to rest and have lunch, which is followed later with afternoon tea, and you set off again at 16.00hrs for your late afternoon game drive. This time you're served 'sundowners' (an aperitif, watching the sun go down) and getting back in time to freshen up before dinner in the Boma. The tented camp is a very different experience, with extremely comfortable tents and outside showers. For those who are experienced riders, the horse safaris can either be based at the camp, enabling you to go out for day rides or it is possible to go on a six-day horse safari riding from camp to camp, with the staff going ahead and making sure everything is set up before you get there. Whichever you choose, you are sure to have a tremendous experience. Andy visited Botswana in May 2006 |
