St Kitts & Nevis are an ideal pairing when considering a two-centre holiday to the Caribbean. Rosie took visited in May 2004. On the Caribbean island of NEVIS, the Four Seasons in an amazing setting on Pinney's Beach, with extensive facilities and beautiful accommodation. With two expansive swimming pools, tennis centre, water sports facilities, an 18-hole championship golf course and one of the prettiest spas I've seen, the resort has something for anyone. There is even a childrens club for 3 – 9 year olds. My room was spacious with a huge veranda overlooking the beach, although I found the mosquito netting on the veranda gave a rather strange, dusky look to the view and really didn't think it was necessary. The restaurant was the same – the fact that ‘New Yorkers don't do bugs' was the explanation from one of the New York managers'! In the evening, it was delightful to wander down the beach to a great little beach bar that serves cocktails and a wonderful fish platter, which certainly cost less than it would have been at the hotel. A real Caribbean atmosphere. The Nisbet Plantation Beach Club is a delightful property which was originally the family home of Fanny Nisbet, wife of Lord Nelson. It has an airy colonial feel with a lovely Queen Anne Great House and pretty gardens scattered with bungalows nestled beneath the palm-groves. The rooms are all decorated in contemporary Caribbean design, all with air-conditioning, tea/coffee makers and their own patios. The beach was a perfect setting for a fantastic lunch, with a gentle breeze, blue skies, azure sea and rum punch! The Montpellier Plantation Inn is another little gem with an impressive Great House, lovely pool and gardens of jasmine and palms. The rooms here were very crisp and fresh with mainly white furnishings and bed linen. They run a shuttle service down to Pinney Beach . The next day I took the ferry over to ST. KITTS and visited Rawlins Plantation Inn for coffee and cakes. This is a small, discreet Plantation House run by Paul & Clare Rawlins, who give the place an English country house feel, combined with West Indian informality. The Terrace Restaurant is renowned on the island and this property would be an ideal honeymoon location, maybe combined as part of an island-hopping itinerary. Perfect tranquil atmosphere. Ottley's Plantation Inn is a stunning property in a 35-acre garden, with rolling lawns at foot of Mount Liamuiga . Originally a 17 th century sugar plantation, it's now very colonial with spacious rooms in the Great House as well as lovely accommodation in the grounds. An ideal place for a wedding reception. There is a small but tastefully decorated Spa, and sports facilities include tennis, croquet, nature walks and elegant swimming pool. They run a shuttle service to the beach (15 mins) or into town. |
